Portuguese has about 360,000,000 million native speakers worldwide.
The vast majority of Portuguese speakers live in Brazil, which not only is the largest Portuguese-speaking country in the world, but also was the seat of the Portuguese colonial empire from 1808 until Independence.
The Portuguese of the former colonial holdings often follows the European dialect and used along side a local creole. However, since the advent of TV and lately Internet-based media Brazilian Portuguese has been having a stronger influence of the language in entire Portuguese-speaking world.
