Introduction
Introdução
Also used in modern French, Catalan and Occitan, the C-cedilla (ç) is a “c” with a diacritical mark that appears as a hook below. It is pronounced as a voiceless “s” and is only used after “a”, ”o” and “u” sounds. It never comes at the beginning of words.
While in other languages that same hook can appear under other letters, in Portuguese it is only used with the letter “c”. Its origins are as a small “z”.
